I think his happy lyrics had a lot to do with what got me into him in the first place. He sort of celebrates life a lot...it's a nice refresher from the constant "love loss," or "you don't understand me" kind of bullshit most people sing about.
Hell, even his love songs are pretty unorthodox. Crash is about a stalker. Say Goodbye is a great love song I think.

"Don't talk to me about naval tradition. It's nothing but rum, sodomy and the lash."
Yeah, I went with happy. BTCS is a pretty dark album in comparison to the others, but for the most part Dave's lyrics make me happy.
"Every dog has its day, every day has its way of being forgotten, Mom its my birthday, what would you say?"
If that doesn't make you smile I don't know what does.

one thing amazing about dmb is that they can create their own mood for a song which can be a mixture of feelings, unlike many other bands of today, like said before who sing about the same bullshit that sounds the same.

thats a good point. i think most of his songs have a happy vibe to em though. and if not happy, hopeful which is a good feeling to me so i go with the happy over depressing
