jazz quintet and dmb have similiar style

i saw the yellowjackets in my hometown, and just bought their mint jam cd, have you guys ever heard them? they rock. anyway i think dmb has their kinda funk-jazz, style and not just because of leroi being in the band, but esp the funk bass by jimmy haslip makes it sounds like stefan might have studied some of that kind of music and roi maybe studied some bob mintzer or something. a lot of their style of song and jammin with the funky fills, unusual time signatures, and things like that seems similiar in their music, and also not just because dmb is more of a jazz based band and this is jazz music, i have heard a lot of other jazz groups, but when i listen to both their music (esp older dmb tunes) it seems like it has something similar, alright just a thought.
