i have been having some problems w/ it though. i'm recording through that mic into a digitech rpx400 multieffects pedal but only using it for it's usb port. i don't really use the effects on it. anyway, no matter how low i turn the recording volume it distorts my voice on louder notes. the last time i recorded w/ it (warehouse contest) for the screaming i literally had to stand on the other side of the room. then the volume of the scream was low and i had to turn it up w/ cool edit pro, but it was still distorted. i don't know what else to do. it seems like a decent mic imo. maybe it sucks
The problem is that if you're running that mic into the effects straight to the pc. There's nothing to amplify the signal there. You need some sort of mic preamp.

Dynamic and piezo microphones (and invariably others) convert the vibrations from your voice/a sound into a current by using magnets that, when vibrated, create the current. Thus, since the microphone creates the current, no external power source is needed. Condenser microphones have active circuitry in them that require power to be supplied because they generate sound currents by determining the differences in voltage on capacitator plates caused by the vibrations in vocals/a sound. Since they have no way of generating an electric current, an external current is required for them to convert the electricity into sound. that was a very basic explanation and in my simplification i may have said something that may not be completely correct, so someone with more experience feel free to correct me.
edit: wait, so my effects pedal doesn't act as phantom power? i'm not running the mic straight into the computer, it's going through a digitech rpx400 multi effects pedal.

You have to be getting some sort of power as far as I know. I have the same mic and it, and I'm pretty sure all condensors will not pick up any sounds at all without Phantom Power. Nonetheless, you do need some sort of preamp/mixer. There are tons out there. Or, just get an MBox.
