Kyser capos

Just bought a regular Kyser quick change capo, drop D capo, and short cut capo on ebay for $13.99 a pop (much better than $20 a piece locally). After watching my Trace Bundy dvd about 1000 times i thought the idea of the different capos was cool so i figured i'd buy some and experiment. I'm sure most all of you have dealt with the regular quick change, but does anyone have any experience with the drop D and short cut capos?

David Wilcox uses quite an arsenal of modified Kyser capos. Some are different degrees of "shortness", depending on how many strings he wanted capoed. He also had some that were "sloted" so that some of the interior strings could remain open while the adjacient strings were capoed.
Acoustic Guitar Magazine had a good article on him some years back that went into great depth on his capos.

excuse my ignorrance, but how would a drop d capo work? wouldnt a capo just raise the tuning?

There is a cutout on the part of the capo that presses the strings above the Low E string, so the capo does not push the Low E string down. So, if you capo on two, it's like Drop D up a whole step.

I am not a big fan of quick change capos. I like the shubbs. You can adjust the strength and they really dont take much longer to put on. You just cant clamp them on the head like the quick change. With the quick change you cant adjust the strength or anything, and I find that I dont like how strong they hold.

Just my opinion. It all depends on personal preference.

You can just move a regular capo up a string. or cut it with a hacksaw, you dont have to buy the special ones

That's correct...all of David Wilcox's were modified by him.

The modified ones cost the same as the regular ones, so why would i buy 3 regular ones and have to attempt to modify them myself and potentially screw them up? Since Kyser manufactures the ones already modified, I view that as a convience.

The Third Hand Capo is a pretty cool idea, you can capo as many or as few of the strings as you want. I've never used one, but it would be fun to mess around with.

The capos came in the mail yesterday, and they rock. They open up so many new things on the guitar, and without retuning, so you still get all the standard voicings. I haven't had too much time to play with them yet, but i'm gonna spend a while with them today.

that doesnt make sense to me. the cutout holds the strigns? strings above the low E? capo on 2? i thought drop d meant down a whole step?
sorry, it just makes no sense to me and i am damn curious now.
