srslots81 wrote:i mean im just saying i would give it serious consideration - truth be told i would probably still go with a martin or something similar, but with a big band and tons of instruments, the Taylors project through better. Less instruments, where the acoustic sound really shines through - i would go martin all the way.
What model did you end up settling on?
I really want to call Martin and see if they'd sell a kit with the 3 piece back. I used to do a lot of carpentry and my grandfather makes handmade mandolins, so Im sure I could build a pretty mean one. But I really love that 3 piece back.
I like the 3 piece back too, but i didnt let it be any type of deciding factor in my purchase. especially seeing as when im playing it, and it gets the most attention, you cant even see that.
I really liked the way the D-35 played, however the bass held out too much for me, muddying the treble with my style of playing.
I didnt like the D-28 too much, not enough balls. The HD-28 and HD-28V were more my cup of tea. Lots of balls, yet very well balanced. The V is brighter and louder from the fwd shifted bracing, and was the kind of guitar i could get, and not think in a year or two "oh i wish this had that, or this, etc."
its a beast.
recordings will come in due time.

Now, what sound differences would one notice between the HD and the D?
also, how do you like the playability obn the v neck? I thought it was kind of awkward feeling, maybe thats cause i have mediumd size hands, and bad joints, so my hands hurt really bad the more presure I have to out on my thumb.
The HD gives a louder fuller sound. Some people dont like this. For recording purposes say, a D-28 might be better then an HD-28, because the bass is less overwhelming. The scalloped bracing allows for the body of the guitar to ring more with the sound.
I didnt like the V neck at first, and was dead set on the HD-28, but the more i played it, the more i took to it. I actually find that i have to put LESS pressure on my thumb when playing something like a B minor, which is why i like it.
if you dont like it though, play it a lot before really deciding, cause i hated it and now prefer it.
my preference in the models i was deciding between, best to last:
HD28V > HD28 > HD-35 > D35 > D28
My guitar comes tomorrow to my office, and i wont even be here, ill be drinking my face off at the Allman Bros Concert at PNC. Itll be a nice treat wednesdya morning...

nice. to be honest, I couldnt tell much of a difference in sound between the HD and the D series, I just hated the herringbone trim. Couldnt stand it.
I guess i should play the V a few more times, maybe play for 15 minutes straight and see how my hand feels. i am shy about playign infrotn of people, especially people good at guitar, but the shop guy who was in the room when I was looking at them was bad enough to wear I was confident to play infront of him.
ehh, its all personal preferance, i think Granny (one of my favorites) sounds 100x better on the taylor, and i think Stay sounds like ass on the Martin.
god I want to play a few more martins now and try another taylor to see if they all feel that weird to me.
you also need to take a lot of things into consideration when saying you dont like the taylors. First off, as far as the body feel, if you try a dread, size wise it will feel the same as a martin dread, same thing with all the body types.
one reason why i dont like Taylors in the store, is they use elixer strings, and i find them very slippery, this would all change with different strings. you can get different sound with different strings, different saddle, different nut, so many variables...

I agree that Martin has traditional tone, but i think its dreadnaught is just average. The ones that Mayer and Clapton use are amazing and awesome to listen to, why? because its not like the other martins. I think martins need something more.
taylor's tone is revolutionary in guitar making i think.

as check said, songs like granny, stay, and so much to say sound sooo kickass on taylors but drab and bland in my opinion on martins. (insert CP clips vs. LS clips)
