I listened to the whole thing, I liked it just fine. Wasn't blown away but it's far from horrible.

It's like they're stuck creatively and no one in the band will step back and be honest that what they've been producing has been obviously inferior to their previous efforts. Not to mention they have stayed quite stagnant with their sound as a band.
They need to either completely change their method of writing music to allow for some new sounds and ideas to permeate their music or they need to call it quits. It's just getting depressing now.
Maybe I'm being overly dramatic, but god damn.

Completely agree. They're taking this "We like it and we'll play what we like" stance on all their new stuff but it's exactly what you said, an unwillingness to look at what's going on and admit that it just blows.

I think Big Whiskey showed at least some self-awareness of their recent lackluster efforts and was a step in the right direction, at the very least. The year off will do them good. Dave will write songs away from the band, which I think is hugely important.
