I have a D35, but never tried a HD-35. But from what I've read/heard, the HD35 not only has more "fancy stuff", but also has a different sound. And "different" doesn't mean "better". There are people that prefer the sound of the D35 (?Tim Reynolds?).

Like always, play both of them and see which one has the best sound for you. If they have the "same sound" for you, I would say you just have to decide if you are willing to pay the extra bills for the "fancy stuff". (Check Martin's webpage for the specific differences)

Good luck man, and I'm sure better posts will come after mine...

I believe the HD35 has forward bracing which gives it a more distinct sound. I have always like the hd's more because i think their sound is more crisp and less muddy especially on open chords.
Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

Try out a HD 28V also if you get a chance. Different neck to it. Thats what I ended up with, and I am glad I got it, but some people hate the neck.

I tried an HD-28V and the guitar sounded great but the shape of the neck just felt really strange to me.
