Of course practice is a necessary thing for improving your voice, but DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT start practicing without first getting some consultation or lessons from a professional teacher! If you don't know how to properly exercise your voice, you could be doing permanent damage to your vocal cords.

Learn how to practice and exercise your voice FIRST, then get on a regular practice schedule.

You can get by just fine without a vocal coach. The most important thing that they will tell you is to get your airflow from your gut and not your chest.

For example, put your hand on your gut and now do this: sssss ssssssss sssssssss (like a snake) Feel that? That's where your airflow should be coming from and that's what should be moving when you're singing, not your rib cage.

do you really think that most people are going to be able to figure out how to do that by just your little explaination there? probably not.... so dont roll your eyes at me fuckface

you can tell someone how to do this all day long, but most people will probably need someone to actually demonstrate it to them. it doesn't necessarily have to be a vocal coach, just some who knows what they are talking about

but as someone who has received musical education, and as someone who GIVES musical education (for 5 years in fact), i think i can safely say that i can give basic advice on the subject.

you didn't just give musical advice, you told the kid not to practice until he went and got professional help in big bold italic letters like it would be the end of the world if he went out and practice a bit. then called miguel names for disagreeing (oh sorry, rolling his smiley face eyes, that must have hurt your feelings) and ignored everyone else who disagreed w/ you.

well, we've already covered the first part (the hurtful smiley face roll eyes) but no, i haven't created a double standard. my comments of you, if you read at all, were not based only on you calling miguel a fuck face. it's the fact that you have not contributed positively to these boards in a long time. ever wonder why you're getting in fights in every other thread??? well guess what buddy...you're an asshole, that's why. and you enjoy it. if i cared to take the time i could search your comments for the last couple weeks or months and come up w/ literally dozens of asshole comments that were made out of sheer love to be an asshole and a lot of which just were all out not needed. so i repeat why this isn't a double standard...months of no positive contribution to these boards.

and like i just explained to whit, you CAN sing on key and sound decent without using proper technique, but you can STILL hurt your voice. you may think that tom sounds good, but i can tell from just listening that he's probably hurting his voice. i haven't listened to you in a while, but you might be doing it too. and believe or not, not even miguel is perfect all the time.

so what does this mean, no one's allowed to sing without lesson's from a proffesional teacher! 1. i don't buy it, yes i know you can do damage to your voice but i've been singing since i was at least 8 years old and my voice still sings. if one day i go to open my mouth and nothing comes out, then i'll let you know. 2. sorry, we can't all afford or have schools w/ classes that allow you to get professional training. i'll stick to singing in my car.

and IM SO SORRY that MAYBE i know what im talking about you can keep saying im trying to act down on people for not being as knowledgeable about certain things, but the fact is that i AM. when someone comes along and proves something i say as totally false, then i will admit it. until then, i will keep giving advice on such subjects. you can think im trying to be condescending as much as you want, but the simple fact is that im just trying to share some knowledge.

I am not speaking from experiance, i never attempted singing...but it IS true that you voice sounds different to yourself becuase of the vibrations in your cheek and jaw bones. Thats why when you hear yourself on a tape recorder you say "thats what I sound like?!"

So may I suggest recording your singing, see what sounds good/bad etc.

Yes I agree with this totally. I thought my voice was like amazing when I would sing to myself and play like truely. Then I had a few friends listen to me and they still thought I sounded pretty good, but they had recorded me and when they played back the song I sounded TOTALLY different.

I really dislike my voice, they said it's good, but I think like just my... voice. doesn't sound good. Not like I'm going to high or off key or anything like that, like all that is there, just the actual voice... If you know what I mean. I don't know I may just be self conscious...

the problem is I don't have a very deep voice naturally, so if I try to sing deep it's not natural and will sound funny and corny, but if I sing normally it almost comes off as like whiney because my voice isn't very deep or even like mid-tone. its like just above mid-tone.

yea, if miguel posted a picture of a girl and said she was hot and i disagreed i may call him a fuckface playing around w/ him. in this case he disagreed w/ you on real world advice and you called him a fuckface...NOT the same thing.
