no, not single handedly, but Id put the majority of the blame on his shoulders. You cant say that had some other producer done the album, it wouldnt have been completely different, he was a fucking rap/pop producer, he took them somewhere completely different. Had it been Lanois, or someone of thta nature that produces similair music to the band, it would have been completely different and probably would have dictated the way they wrote and recorded songs.

if the band didnt like the direction the album was going they could have put a stop to it.
The fact of the matter is they are proud of the music they made for this album and consider it album worthy. i mean, this isnt the kind of band that just throws shit out there.

f you ask me, Dave just needs to take of on his own and write a bunch of shit on his own, the stuff he wrote from 1990 - 1995 will be my fav stuff by far.

I think they were just excited about all the music they were pumping out. You know, the Stand Up songs are good for the most part, but the production of the album is what ruins it for me. So, yes I do put all the blame on Batson.

You kidding me? BS was the most uninspired record ever. It's almost like there wasn't actually a producer. Which would be good if the band were playing with any energy, but they weren't. He was a sound engineer, nothing more.

And I personally hold dmb more responsible for their latest albums than their producers. Sure, I think their producers should have put more of an effort in...they should have forced them to perform at a level they are capable of. Their past three or so albums have shown that the fastest, easiest way is never the best. They're taking shortcuts, whether anyone wants to admit it or not. Good songs, good lyrics...they take time. They don't appear out of thin air.

I do blame batson primarily for the sound of Stand Up, which i consider overproduced and electronic.

I would rather see the band play in a circle again like they used too.

It's a long shot, but what I want most is the summer 04 songs to be taken into the studio and for the band to make the album stand up should have been.

THEY WANTED IT to go somewhere different. did you not watch any of the videos? if the band wanted to do the same old shit, they could have. look at last summer. they can write a song like crazy easy or joyride at the drop of a hat.

ah, the production of the album and the final product of the songs in a live setting are two different things. we have jsg bitching about how he blames batson for the quality of the songs and the style of the album, but in reality the only thing batson REALLY had control over was his ability to slightly tweak the songs to his liking. if the band didn't like the songs, they didn't need to put them onthe album. batson got them started on writing the songs by recording clips, etc, but he wasn't the one putting them on the album.

All i'll say is, It wasnt baston's voice doing the backing vocals on old dirt hill......

True...but I'm sure Batson had some say in that part of the song. "Yo dawgs, let's have some sick compressed vocals up in this biatch. That would be like the gravy on the mashed potatoes that is Old Dirt Hill. Then we could call the song Bring That Beat Back as an homage to my homies that can't be with us here today"

If Lanois, or any other producer of the like, would have produced this album, "American Baby Intro" would have been the full, beautiful song it probably was before it was cut down to what it is now, with more than about 10 seconds of vocals.

Forgive the stupid question, but I couldn't find anything in a search: What's the "Awesome News From Ants" thread all about? I'm assuming that the band announced that they're working with Batson again? There's another album coming out soon? Sorry, I'm just a little lost

I wouldn't mind if they worked with him again, but I would mind if they worked with him in the same way they did last fall/winter (i.e., pumping out an album way too quick). Again, sorry for the ignorant post, but please someone fill me in.

yeah cause think if they didnt have a guy takin short riffs making that a song, having thr pace to fast it mighta been better. so it is his fault not saying anyone else woulda made a gem but the fact that the album is shit like it is is his fault.
