In terms of ability, Tommy Emmanuel is right up there ... I'm not a big fan of his Chet Atkins fetish but the guy can flat out play
Dave seems low except that I think the average person wouldn't think of "Crash" the same way they'd think of "Layla" ... which probably hurts his ranking ...
Before I really got into the way Dave plays guitar I had no idea how complex his playing was ... I assumed it was several guitar parts overlayed.

C'mon, I love JJ's tunes, but he's not the most amazing guitarist.
This poll is highly suspect.
It's not "Who is best?" It's a favorite thing. If it was "best of" Robert Johnson would be MUCH higher. And as much as I agree Leo Kottke is amazing, I don't like his music much.
If you wan't to read a "best of" list that's even more bullshit than this, check out any of Rolling Stone's guitar lists.

And on the Mayer tip...
I've seen him up close, small venues, acoustic solo shows. The man does deserve to be on this list.
This list isnt about ability. Its about peoples favorite guitarist.
You're right. You win.

Most people are morons. I take this info with a grain of salt. (Edit: I don't mean YOU area a moron, but I mean people in general)
I love Dave's music, but to be ahead of names like Drake, Alex de Grassi, Paul Simone, etc. is a joke.
This list should be known as top 50 most popular or easily remembered acoustic guitarists.
Thanks for the link though

Are you saying it's wrong if someone likes Dave's music better than Drake etc.. ?
ok then, to silance all this 'favorite guitarist' stuff... its not possible to rank who has the most 'skill' or is the 'best'. this is just who the people liek the most. i like dave's music better than leo kottke's, but leo is definately mroe talented than dave. so this really is a who i like more, then a scientifically gathered who is 'best'
