There is a sect out there that believes 666 was translated incorrectly it's suppose to be 616 according to their beliefs or studies or whatever. Just a fun fact.

it's 666, this all goes back to the bible where it says that 777 is the number of God and the number of man is 666 for him not being God. and the beast shall bare the number of man, as in 666.
there are a million different theories regarding 666 so don't go saying things like it is fact. A pretty popular translation is that once the world ends all the Christians will go to Heavan and the others will remain on Earth where Satan will control. All the people that remain on Earth will bear the mark of the beast on their foreheads as a sign of allegiance to Satan.

their are literally hundreds of theories about the origins of 666. The bible never clearly says the exact meaning. The entire book is open for interpretation, but I have never read that exact statement. I know I have heard dozens of theories and translations myself though.

It isn't a sect, it's straight out of the Dead Sea Scrolls, which they only discovered a couple of years ago. The 666 has been mistranscribed for thousands of years.
