eh. some producers try to cut out the squeaking, but overall it gives it character. it can be annoying at times, but you play long enough you don't really notice anymore. :)

customs lights are .11, lights are lighter at .10

yerah saw that later, I was wrong,. :p

Anyway, after playing the D'A's for a while now my conclusion: I find them to have a fuller rounder sound compared to the Elixirs most notably in a more defined sound for the single lower string hits. BUT they SQEEK SO LOUD!! It's annoying!! I slide very very much and this is not a good thing for me.

I know people like them, but I really don't like how Elixirs sound, at all. They may not squeak, and last forever, but if they sound like crap, what is the point?

they dont slide like crap, they sound great, a little less clear than D'a's, but great nonetheless, and they don't squeek at all and are so smooth for sliding.

jtdevan wrote:I agree. I also like the squeaking. I've been playing D'addario EXP's for about a year now and I love them. Elixirs are too slippery for me -- I love the sound, but I cant keep my fingers on the frets during a long stretch. Pain in the ass. Anyone ever try the Martin coated strings??

But going back to the squeaking, almost every acoustic album I've heard, live or studio, has sqeaking when the player changes hand positions. It is defininately a part of playing. I mean, excessive squeakage (haha. like that word?) can be annoying, but I don't hear that very often.
i had heard satalite many times on live versions and such, but when i first hear it on the album, i was so distracted by the incesent squeaking, it totally ruins that song on the album. such a beautiful song to be mutilated by squeaks.

i think that simple songs, and good songs can have a bit of squeaking but when i hear clapton rock acoustic, he's not squeaking everywhere. you're never gonna have a great song if you're squeaking everywhere playing it. and if some people want to fully eliminate that squeak with the elixirs, i say go for it. and if you can live with uncoated, keep on rockin!
