I agree w/ your teacher to a certain extent, dave has some good lyrics and songs, some interesting guitar parts, but for the most part, it's pretty cheap. most good guitarists can't stand dave matthews because at most he's a sting/police wannabe with his "revolutionary dave chords" except sting and the police actually know what they're doing where dave is just dicking around. yeah, tell your teacher I agree with him, and for a four month guitar player, who are you to argue such a point? have you heard of the concept of credibility?

hey gcom, as you can tell i joined here a while ago and ive been playing guitar up to a year now. well todays class with him went a little better i found out he has a 1970's Martin he said. I still disagree with him on some issues :)

i actually agree with the part about the "revolutionary dave chords". it seems that he gets to much credit for using inversions that already have been done before and any jazz guitarist would know off the top of their head.

i don't think that dave is a revolutionary guitar player, yes some of his stuff is rather creative, but most is pretty standard stuff. i would say that dave is a good guitarist simply because he is good at what he plays. in other words, he has good musicianship.

I do find it quite intense how he just picks out individual strings while he's strumming..
