Re: New Album/studio sessions.....

Post by Cor »

Prediction- this album sucks like the last two.

Even if it has that same type of sound I can't see myself getting into it, that band and those first couple albums were an awesome part of a different time in my life, so I can still listen to it sometimes on nostalgic terms, but I can't see a new album by them even getting me excited.

That said, this thread makes me want to listen to the album Crash right now.

Maybe he'll make them bring back Sugar Will, Crazy Easy, Joy Ride, Good Good Time, etc. Shotgun and Idea of You would be kind of nice too.

It'd certainly fit with their laziness. "Hey, here's half an album already written!"

I'd be more than satisfied if those songs got the Lillywhite treatment.

Honestly, I would too. Those and Kill the King. I dig that tune.

The best songs from the Big Whiskey sessions weren't even on the album (they were on the bonus CD) This album will be no different; they'll record a bunch of shit, pick the mediocre songs that they all wrote together then play them for all the bros this summer that will pay $70 to see DMB live either way

*shrug* A mixture of hyperbole and bad memory. I haven't sat on the lawn at Alpine in like 5 years

I was thinking about it, and if there's one thing I hope Lillywhite does, is give each instrument their voice back. Each producer since lillywhite has basically mashed all the instruments together to get one sound. (pick the majority of the songs on Everyday, Stand Up (what a shitty album name by the way) and BW, and that's what you get) Sure there are occasional solo's, but for me, what made those first few albums unique was that each instrument seemed to have it's own roll in EVERY SONG.

I just listen to spoon the other day, and you could pick out each instrument and pending on the instrument you tuned into, the song took on a completely different direction. I want to hear dave's guitar riffs, I want to hear boyd, I want to hear tim (on the acoustic guitar), I want to hear Jeff (RIP Roi), I want Carter's unique drum beats etc. I don't want to songs like "Shake Me Like a Monkey" where you can really only hear the trumpet. Regardless of if they come up with new stuff or revisit old stuff, I just hope Lillywhite brings back that instrumentation that the other producers seemed to ignore or over look.
