one thing you guys might want to try that i did, is getting the same pickups SRV used. The standard passive pickups that come with most strats are kinda of week as they don't have near the maganent size as SRV's Wildcats. They cost around 80 -200$. The pickup swap is a little ticky to do, but if you're handy with a screw driver you can pull it off. I can't recall if i had to solder or not, i put mine in like 5 years ago. I have a Mexi-strat with a rosewood fretboard, which sounded a little thin before the pickups. Afterwards its thick and PHAT. Also little wing it one of my favs.

To change pickups properly there should be a soldering iron involved.. and many people will either struggle to have a hot enough iron to solder the grounds onto a pots shell, without frying the pot itself. If you don't feel comfortable soldering, don't. You could use wire nuts on the already soldered wires, but I don't that will do wonders for the tone..

I tend not to play my Strat as much as I used to..
I was going to replace the pickupsa few years back (because I hate the fender single coils), but ended up getting an SG for $450 (CDN) so I had to get it.... and never got around to changing the pickups.
