Mayer lives in LA. And he only guested on #41 (which wouldn't be his decision in the first place, it's Dave's show and he probably asked John if he'd guest on that specific song), but he did a great job IMO.

Mayer played at the VA tech show before Dave (it was a joint bill, with Nas also playing, I think). I think Mayer just showed up to guest with the band at the Hollywood Bowl, though.
