anyway, that is a common criticism for people who don't like DMB: they think it all sounds the same... but then they've never listened to BTCS or UTTAD and all they've listened to are the songs that have been on the radio/everyday/stand up.
I wouldn't be upset enough personally to write in about it... it's just someone's opinion ultimately. Now if she was spewing inaccuracies about technical stuff whether it be in music or about the band then those should be pointed out because one of the first rules of journalism is to be as accurate as possible with reporting information and presenting ideas as fact.
I fully accept the writer's point of view on this subject. She brings up good debatable arguments on the bands talent. I enjoyed reading this so much, I printed it out and wiped it with my ass. True Story.
The arguement, "It all sounds the same" is typically levied by someone who has never explored either the genre, or the particular band, they are talking about. As a result, that arguement has been used against every type of music ever made.
Many people here would likely say that all death metal sounds the same...i.e. a lot of notes played really fast and a singer who just screams his balls off.
Yet ask any Slayer fan and they will tell you exactly why Slayer is different from bands like Iron Maiden or Opeth.
People are just turned off from the beginning and never actually listen to the music.
So say you like death metal, you still might say: Ashley Simpson sucks and all her songs sound the same.
What you really mean is that her songs dont speak to you because you are not a girl aged 11-21 (for whom these songs are written) or you don't like the instrumentation, or you have bought into the bullshit of the drama surrounding her.
No band sucks, you just don't get it, maybe because it wasnt written for you to get, or you are just an asshole who evaluates music based on things other than what is being played in your headphones. Things like: "the song is overplayed" or "she is lipsyncing" or
Point is, and always is: people tear things down to build themselves up. Period!
What the hell ever happened to not having an opinion?

Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?
Whenever a band is very popular, there is always someone who will be on the other side saying how much the band sold out or how untalented they are, it is a degree of jealousy and misery. Not sure why everyone tries to have an "opinion" on everything instead of just exposing themselves an album and either enjoy it or turn it off.
BTW, I have many friends who have pulled this "Dave sucks, its all the same music" and then I have them come along for a show and they ALWAYS enjoy themselves because it is a good time, period.
I for one don't go to a show and break down every facet of the performance and complain that he didn't play a particular song or that his voice was not as crisp as in the past, I just think about the fact that there are few things that I would prefer to be doing instead of listening to DMB with a cold bear (and perhaps a J). Why must everyone attempt to complicate music?
