d-35 lists for $2949. assuming the usual 42% off list, that's just over $1700

At places online it is...not necessarily for Guitar Center, etc.

Congrats...my guitar "Matt's HD-28v" is the first picture on Maury's site. I went with a Greven 50's on my 28V, and added 4mm tortoise inlay bone bridge pins and polished bone saddle (I wasn't too impressed with the stock bone). When I get a chance, I'll swap out the tuners for Waverly's. I had a Baggs Ibeam Active added to it...sounds incredible.

Thanks, I saw yours on their when I first looked for mine. I had the 30's Greven put on. I will probably change the saddle soon too. Waverly's sound like a pretty good idea too. Any idea what those run?

Depends...I'm a chrome guy, so a chrome drop-in set would run about $150 plus shipping. They are really easy to install, just takes a little patience and a hint of finesse. I believe gold plated are a lot more. Go to http://www.stewmac.com If you get a chance, take a dab of petroleum jelly on a Q-tip and dab your threads of your tuners...it will make life a lot easier tuning and a lot less friction. The tuners that Martin has on there now are Grovers with butterbean knobs, which retail for $28. El-cheapo.

These are the pins I added, if you need a hook-up, just hollar. You'll notice they match the Greven guard perfectly...took a little research, but I got it:

And I realized your guard is a 30's not a 50's, so those pins might not be spot-on to your guard color.

paduak and faux tortoise shell are remarkably similar looking when inlaid in 2mm or 4mm pins.

I just looked at Martin's website and apparently the tuners are actually Gotoh Nickel Open Geared w/ Butterbean Knobs. Still not quite the Waverly's, but not bad.

yeah, my bad...Gotoh's/Grovers...same crap...literally

Waverlies are so smooth, have a better gear ratio, and hold tuning MUCH better. I haven't tuned my *other* guitar with Waverlies in like a week.

You are quite wrong, and at $2099, you've been ripped off.

The prices you are seeing are what's known as the M.A.P. prices. Since Martin hates dealer competition, they keep the M.A.P. prices as a way to "regulate" pricing so to speak. There are various online dealers (including Elderly that you have linked) that will offer up to 42% off LIST price. If a D-35 lists for $2949, 42% off list is $1710.

So, you are wrong. That is, of course, unless you are referring to the HD-35, which lists for $3549. 42% off list is $2058...if that's the case, you overpaid $41.
