I think One More Night is your best song...I mean...thats a great song dude...you defnitely have the most talent on these boards when it comes to originals...definitely....I'm not trying to kiss your ass, but I read billys post and laughed....

wow, someone woke up too early on this day. did i say the songs were bad? no actually i said they were good and didnt say one bad thing about them. i said "i think your songs are pretty good." so what's the problem? i didnt know whether his recording gear was bad or if he was using effects. i listened to one more night and liked it, it is much cleaner than the other that i listened to. and tico took that information well and explained it. so then all of a sudden you come in and try to turn him and others against me. sometimes i have tried to defend you when people get on your case, but now i completely see what everyone is talking about

jason i appreciate the defense and the compliments on songwriting, but i also didn't really take a whole lot of offense at what billy said. so it's ok. i appreciate you looking out for me, though.

I actually haven't been writing a whole lot lately. I've been ABSURDLY busy with school stuff. What I have been writing is a little different that what I've done rhythmically in the past: I write in 4/4 waaaaaay to much, and a lot of my songs have very similar grooves. Right now, I've almost got a bluegrassy guitar thing going, in that a lot of the guitar parts I've been messing with are very syncopated. I'd also like to write more on the piano. (One More Night and Call Me Love weren't written on the piano, but they are PERFECT for it, and I enjoy them more when I'm tickling the ivories.) Over the summer I should get a chance to hammer out some new ideas, though. I've got a billion different licks/melodies/lyrics that I could work on. It just an issue of letting the cream rise and then working with what I end up with. I'm probably going to be out in Colorado working at a horse ranch this summer, which sounds wonderfully conducive to songwriting, so hopefully I'll have some good inspiration and work time out there.

Unfortunately, I don't. I'm hoping to work up some cash and get stuff to record with this summer that would let me get a piano recording, though.

True it can open up for alot of new worlds when writing , but keep that in mind when some people put down good albums like Everyday for instance .... Trying out new stuff can open up worlds , but some people see it as a backfire , maybe because they get so hooked on the first couple things they hear from a band , and then a couple years later when the band says its time to try something new , everyone yells at them lol .... give it a chance everyone

Oh, I agree completely, fire, and am completely aware of that. Quite honestly though, it's been hard for me to keep my sound while moving to a regular 3/4 or 6/8. Often it ends up sounding like some sort of acoustic emo stuff, which is fine, except for the fact that it's not me and it's done waaaaay too much. I definitely play around with different time sigs; I just haven't had satisfactory results. yet.

One of my favorite things to do with time sigs is to mix them up, 3/4's and 4/4's all in the same song. If you can pull it off without it being too apparent the effect is soooooo sweet. Sorry Love has some of that, as does Surprise, and a new one that I'm working on. That's some REALLY fun stuff.
