Im sure you can find one that allows you to have dedicated pedals for each sound, but its way easier to program your beats and use pedals for start/stop and fills etc. Less cheesy with live stomping though.
To be honest I know very little about drum machines (dont need them myself), I suggest you check them out though, considering what youre after. Its way easier to lug a box around than a set of drums too.
How are you supposed to hit all the drums accurately with only two feet btw?
EDIT: Regarding MIDI pedals, theres virtually no limitations to midi pedals. The pedals themselves just send triggers and can trigger whatever you hook them up to, as long as the triggered device supports it. Same goes for functions, the pedals can do what the device allows you to do.

well, i would only have 3 pedals really. a normal drummer has at least 2 mostly 3 and sometimes more. i'd do bass with right foot. snare with left foot. and i'd also have the other pedal that i'd use with either one.
it seems a lot sexier to use real drums, but they're so expensive, and yeah you're right, i dont wanna lug them around. and i couldnt practice in my dorm room either

thought I might add a bit of Aussie input-what Xavier rudd uses is a stompbox (pretty much a wooden box with a mike in it) it sounds great and I've made one for myself-pretty easy and cheap.
As to drums I once saw the Finn brothers play acoustic at the wave aid concert using pedals and a bass drum-sounded alright

Yeah, but a drummer also has two free arms.
A standard 4/4 beat usually goes with a bass and snare drum sharing beats 'dum' 'bok' 'dum' 'bok' and the crash/hit/whatever going at every beat 'tic' 'tic' 'tic' 'tic'.
Seems hard to do with two feet since you would have to move one of your feet between two pedals constantly, talk about excercise!
Though, you could probably mix the sounds on the same midipedals. Say bass and 'tic' on one pedal and snare and 'tic' on the other.
Practice makes perfect, I suppose. If you pull this off, while playing guitar and singing its gonna be awesome! But man, it sounds hard!

how technical of you...
and a crash cymball on every beat would be a little odd... i think you meant to say hi-hat, in which case you would still be a little off because the hi hat hits usually on an 8th note or 16th note pattern
