ok, here's the difference: the chords are different. in the easier case, its a standard D chord with the notes x-x-(D)-A-D-(E)hF#. in the Dave case, its a different D chord with notes x-A-G-EhF#-(E). so the difference, bottom line, is that they sound different.

do I prefer to play it how Dave plays it? yes
have I played it the easier way lots of times before? yes

I think that sometimes the reason that Dave plays chords that are harder to make is because it looks cool when we plays it and probably got him a lot of ass....don't you think? I mean there are easier ways to play Dave's songs but they don't look as cool or sound as cool. He just found the key to getting laid was to make cool guitar shapes. Just my 2 cents.

I don't understand exactly why chicks have a hard time playing DMB. There's this chick i know, and she thinks she is better than she really is. She thinks she's better than me.
I play a DMB song really smoothly, and she says "teach me that Andrew." So I try and show her, but she can't do it. Her excuse is "We have different playing styles."
