i disagree, i think martins sound better in pretty much every situation

dave's taylor sounds like ass on the gorge.. the martin sounds perfect on listener supported

I would really go with the Taylor, but that's probably just because I have one of those and not a Martin.

Basically, either one is an AMAZING, top quality, well built, well respected and beautiful sounding instrument. Discount the electronics, because you can drop a fishman into the Martin really easily (But the ES on the Taylor is fantastic and better, imo, than most other pickups I have heard).

Play them both, and pick which you like. I think the fact that this board of discerning ears and tastes seems to be split evenly between the two goes to show that you really cannot go wrong with either guitar.

Yeah I just wanted some advantages/disadvantages or maybe some horror stories cause I got a Takamine EG523SC and it was the worst decision ever. It looks beautiful but it sounds like ass when its played cause the action is too low and it buzzes everywhere. I tried to have it adjusted but the guy says its not worth it cause the truss rod is complete shit. Anyways the input is really helpful. Thanks!

Why go with the Maple over the Rosewood? Oh and what the crap why is the 614 more expensive than the 714?

The maple will be a slightly brighter sound than the rosewood. The rosewood will be a bit more bassy, but, once again, it is all preference.

My 410-LTD is Imbuia wood which is an African hardwood similar to rosewood, and I love it. My friend had a few 6's that I played as well, but I just like that little bit of added boom that comes with the wood.

I once heard from a guy that a guitar sounds its worst the day you buy it. It will just mature and open up after that, and the sound will always - at least with the two you are choosing from - continue to get better.

EDIT: I read on a different site that Imbuia is a Brazillian wood, and not African.

just remember sound only improves if its REAL wood.

The dreadnought is great for recording, but i personally don't like to use mine when playing live with the band because of comfort. That's why I like the 714ce. It depends on how often you perform live, or if you record more often. Personally I would go for a Larrivee OMV-10 (I think it is). Rosewood back and sides with a sitka spruce top and inlay that makes you cum your pants. I think the B Band A6 blows the pants of Fishman and ES as far as electronics. And if I'm not mistaken, it's cheaper than both these guitars. Don't limit yourself to Martin and Taylor because famous people play them. Shop around, play as many guitars as you can, and don't spend 3000+ dollars on a guitar because of a brand label on the headstock.
