god damn dude if he likes it by all means let him get it - i know what you're saying and i hear your argument, but just because you personally think that people shouldn't get martins because of the name doesn't mean he oughta get something else - if he's happy with it thats great, i'm happy for him - its not like you have to get a DX1 too, so i suggest you go play whatever guitar you want to and let him be

thanks man i appreciate that.. i do like it, like i said i am no pro and for me this guitar is awesome, i like how it sounds and i got it for a good deal. i am so happy to have it, i just wanted to hear what you guys thought of it, but i like it alot and i hope it lasts.. the only thing i dont like about it is that it doesnt have the fret markings but that isnt a big deal.. i love it though :D :D thanks again :D

yea, but what Im trying to say is...more people are likely to buy your martin (assuming that you sell it) then they will to get an alverez. Not because it is better, but because it is a Martin.

The DX, though, is fine
or pay less than the D-15 for the limited spruce/mahogany D-15 from musicians friend
Its basically a D-18 without the finish for half the price

Were you not all giddy when you got your first real guitar?

Ok im sorry, i was acctually reading this a few minutes ago and registered. I got my DX1 about 5 months ago, and it is the most amazing thing ive ever played. I love this guitar with a passion. You dont need a D-28 or a nice takamine to have a nice guitar, this guitar is the only thing i need.

The guitar doesnt make the guitar player, the player does.

first off, great username, truly

second, i agree that the guitar doesnt make the player, but you don't see jeff gordon racing minivans, and the car doesnt make the driver either. Theres no way a guitar can make you a better player, but theres only so much you can play on a jasmine.

Im glad you love that guitar so much. thats awesome for you. we've all got our opinions and thanks for yours. i inherited a guitar from my uncle thats 30+yrs old and only cost him 100 bucks when he bought it, i think it sounds as nice as almost anything out there, i truly do. (maybe with the exception of larrivees)

welcome to the boards, i hope you stay for a while

i agree with praise, not knockin ya, but look at someone like tim, put him on DX1 and hed be good, but his other guitars, like his D35 he will amaze us. so yes the guitar doesnt make the player, but it doesnt always help him.
