It's different coming from a dmb fan though, and especially different when they play guitar. If both of those criteria are met and someone still gives props, I think that's pretty legit.

Sure, you can play 41 and say goodbye and to the average person they sound great. But if you played say goodbye for me, I guarantee I would probably think it sucked. Nothing against you, but I'm just a lot more keen to the way dave plays it and almost NOBODY on these boards gets anywhere near the percussive sound he does. There's a difference between being able to finger chords and strum the song and being good at playing it.

So if the listener is a fan, and plays guitar, and the guy playing is young...that's a trifecta. :) When you're young, your hands are smaller, and you probably don't have as much experience. I think that's worth extra credit for sounding good.

yeah im just thinking i mean, like well shit i need to get a good recording of my friend, i have one of him that sounds exactly like SRV until he gets crazy and throws on waaaaaay too much distortion, but i mean its like this. i know other DMB guitarists would think stuff sucks, but theres very few DMB fans where i am, and even fewer guitar players that know shit, for the most part its me and my friends... i do actually know shit, and am fairly decent, could i sit next to dave and do just as good guitar wise? fuckin hell no! no one can, but theres people out there that just suck. i just dislike people assuming someone is good just because their young, or less good because their older.

I realize now that his active posting days were before your time so you may not be fully acquainted with him. Cool guy, can play Dave songs better than Dave can. Even does the pajama-pants dance.

firedancer is awesome, regardless of his age... but his age definatly increases his awesomeness.

If you're really good when you're young then people assume you have more potential, and often times you do. It works the other way too though. If someone isn't so good at guitar, people might consider them a good guitar player if they're 13 as apposed to 30.

my brother told me that this kid is in a couple of classes with him in school and they talk, and my bro sais he takes guitar lessons and knows how to read music for several postitions, and different time signatures like he told my bro that the stay or leave song was in 6/8 and stuff, and shifts to 2/4 and then somethin like that, i dont even know much about that, im not saying that he is the best obviously hes not, but he was impressive, and also there are many who know how, but look at all of the new generation guitarists today, we know mostly tab, and yes there are a lot of music guitar readers but tab is the majority by far, and also since your younger you dont have as much confidence as you are when older and thats my opinion, but ill leave you at yours, peace

I guess, for me, it's not the fact that he's young and playing guitar, but it's the fact that he's young and respects artists/groups such as Dave/DMB and the Beatles.

And apparently, he really does respect their music.

I don't know many young people (besides myself, I'm 16) that actually respect music for music. They listen to the Beatles just because the 60s and 70s are suddenly cool again. I know people who say, "I love the Beatles!" at my highschool, but they don't own ONE CD, and they don't even know the member's names. So when they HEAR the Beatles, they're like "Who the hell is that?" And I'll say, "Oh! I thought you liked the Beatles!" I do that from time to time in my drama class when we're given a free day. I'll pop in Abbey Road or Rubber Soul, and they'll cringe.

If the boy who was at that talent show, or whatever it was, honestly enjoys and respects that music, GOOD FOR HIM. If he's doing it because he thinks it's cool to be different, fuck him. Not that I'm saying different is bad, but when someone does it JUST so they can be popular, it sucks. You know, like... Pop-punk bands. Those fuckers.

...... Wow, I went off-topic. Ah well.

so lets just give the 14 year old credit for having balls for playing live, cause that can be difficult, and credit for sounding good...because now this post has come to the point where it is waste...move on people.
