What embarrasses me, is the fact that I share a planet where a majority of the people base their likes and dislikes on whatever the media/music companies decide to stream into their herd-like minds instead of looking into music themselves to determine their own opinions on the subject.
I'm glad that I "stumbled" onto the DMB moreso than having my interest gained in them via radio.
Heck - out of the mentioned artists in this thread (n'sync, backstreet boys, britney spears and the dixie chicks), I think the Dixie Chicks are the only ones that write their own music and lyrics. The rest are just glorified boners'n wet spots being used to make the record company's fortune.

I don't see how other's taste in music should effect you one bit. Who cares if people listen wo whatever, would you still like DMB if they were the biggest thing on the planet, and all of those little girls and poo-dickers that liked the backstreet boys listened to dmb? that to me would turn me off of their music.dmfollower wrote:I have no responce to that, it was perfect.DMBuds wrote:Nope! I like dmb cause i have something in common with 50% of their fan base, I don't want people who like that other music (that i personally think is shitty) going to the same concerts as me.
If other people's tastes in music had no effect, let alone how it [a]ffects me, there would be no such thing as DMBtabs.com.czech wrote:I don't see how other's taste in music should effect you one bit.
The point that I was trying to make is how a lot of talentless (Damn! is that even a word?) bands gain popularity not because of the quality of the music or their singing voices, but from the record labels continuously pushing these poor excuses for musicians over the radio/television/Internet. Whereas bands such as DMB (who get little to no media coverage regardless of their superior musical talent) rarely get the attention they deserve because - well, most people don't consciously choose the type of music they listen to.
If they did, DMB would be more popular than they are.
Music affects people. Certain types of music has different effects on individuals. I seriously doubt that if the fans of the other "bands" that you mentioned happened to show up at a DMB concert, that they would act the way they do at the other "band's" shows.czech wrote:Who cares if people listen wo whatever, would you still like DMB if they were the biggest thing on the planet, and all of those little girls and poo-dickers that liked the backstreet boys listened to dmb? that to me would turn me off of their music.

1: you are dillusional to think DMB is some musically superior band. I'm sure as a collective group we could name atleast 10 bands currently more talented without a doubt.DMBuds wrote:If other people's tastes in music had no effect, let alone how it [a]ffects me, there would be no such thing as DMBtabs.com.czech wrote:I don't see how other's taste in music should effect you one bit.

2: what does it matter what people like? and media cant tell yuo what you like, all it can do is increase opportunity to hear it. I like bands that are musically talented, btu I also like bands like Fall Out Boy, because i dont think talent is the only aspect. Maybe I want to relate to my music and 12 yr old girls just cant relate to DMB, but they can relate to a bunch of pre-pubecent boys singing about the crap these girls want to hear.

It's a fact that bands need some kind of push from their record companies so they can sell albums and put food on their tables. It's also true that with that push the band gets exposure which also brings in new fans. Those new fans maybe 12 year old girls or 22 year old frat boys, it doesn't matter to the band because as long as they keep packing venues and people keep buying their albums. They are going to remain current and popular. It sucks to us older fans because while we want the band to succeed we don't want to see these new annoying fans at the shows. They gobble up the better seats and scream for "satellite" when there's a break in between songs. It's the price we pay for the band getting popular.

I can't listen to a live recording and not cringe at the screaming when that 4th note of crash rings out. i just put my head down and feel embarrassedhofdaddy wrote:It's a fact that bands need some kind of push from their record companies so they can sell albums and put food on their tables. 1. I do think DMb is one of the most talented current bands in mainstream music today. Which I guess would make them superior.
2. You are right, the media can't tell us what to listen to or watch. But, somehow, hearing something over and over again has an effect on people. There's a Kelly Clarkson song I happened to like, only becasue I heard it 50 times a day. When I first heard it, I hated it, then the music director pumped it in my head at least once an hour.
3. I dont know
4. You certainly are.

being musically great, doesnt make great music.
just cause something is hard to play, people can mistake it for bieng great.
often an easy oasis song is musically better than a complex bele fleck tune.,, the speed and skill cant mask a poor sense of rythem/melody/harmony/bass line/ emotion etc that goes into making a great song.
also in agremense with above dmb are very very tallented. they have become fameous because of the correct ballance of musical skill and jam band qualitys////// mixed with great song writting, and great shows.
i agree with the point about record lables, i think it comes down to , a simple song thats catchy will always do better.
hense dmbs sucsess of songs like "where are you going" over songs like you never know
they are two diffrent things for diffrent times. i wouldnt want to go to a club and listen to dmb just as i wouldnt want to be chilling in my living room with friends and a cold beer listening to clubed to death.
