Voice lessons?

Post by Raif2032 »

Anyone know if voice lessons help at all? I guess i am too stubborn to admit that singing ability is strictly something you are born with and I am wondering how to improve my singing....any suggestions?

we had a soundcheck for New Years party two weeks ago, and one of my buddy's played 'another lonely day' by ben harper as well as 'stay or leave' and he had been warning us that he's a horrible singer...not the case at all!! the kid had a really good voice but just underestimates it completely...it's tough to find a way to practice on your own..took me two years of singing 10-15 hours a week to find my own method for learning...but lessons would probably be huge if you're struggling to find your own learning process... my first rule would be to not judge your voice right off the bat... 99% of people suck at singing in the beginning...give it time...and by time, i'd say a good 2-4 years of solid practicing...you will see vast improvements (and probably double the improvements if you take lessons)... i thought singing would be a lot easier than learning the guitar...it's really not all that far behind...finding a solid customized singing voice takes a lot of frikken practice...but it's worth it

great point, don't judge your own voice. you should let us here it or sing for someonet that has an unbiased opinion to kinda let you know where you are. that's what teachers are best for but you don't have to spend money to get your voice better unless you're just completely lost. you can do it on your own driving from place to place wailing w/ the radio.

i took voice lessons this past summer. all they allowed me to sing were broadway songs.. i guess it would help you really learn how to sing from the diaphragm, not from the throat.
