I have a guitar that I have people sign and on it is Tommy, Doyle & Tim! I love it!

Tommy is amazing. Simply amazing, through & through. Hell of a nice guy, too.

Whoever said he's not in the states often is wrong. He's here all the time. He constantly tours the world.

Every guitar player should be familiar w/Tommy.
Peace,

taylordb wrote:Tommy Emmanuel is an amazing guitarist...and he not just fingerstyle. He can flatpick with the best of them. He can also use effect pedals with an acoustic to blow your mind....there is one song he does, I think it is called Indoctrunation (or something like that) that is mostly improv where he uses delay and volume pedals (among others) while using slides, drum brushes, hand taps, etc. to produce a truely primal sound....just leaves you spellbound.

He comes to our area every year for a 3 day "Tommyfest" where he does a 4 to 6 hour workshop during the day (for 2 days) followed by a show each night. Last year it was $120 for the whole weekend, including both the workshops. I couldn't make it to the workshops (dammit) but got to the shows.

As for being the best guitarist in the world, well that is entirely subjective, but the man "lives" for the guitar...and it shows. What a talent. Plus he has the stage presence to back it up.

I think he has come out with an instructional DVD. Haven't seen it but I bet it is worth it.

I've got a short mpeg clip of him from a performance in France that starts to show his talent. When I get home tonight I'll find it. Can someone host it for me?
Damn, my server isn't up. But when it is, I'll let you all know. I'm starting a hosting company, and I'll have unlimited bandwidth. So if ya need a web site, let me know.

Although that's great, that is actually not one of the better Initiations that I have seen. As you can tell, there is alot of room for improv, and that song can get totally off the hook.

Just found this link with two videos:

http://www.woodsongs.com/showlist.asp

show 349 and 245.

These are radio shows, and you just have to wait a little bit until Tommy starts playing.

I'm downloading both shows right now.

Woodsongs is broadcast from my town. It's really cool to go see, they hold it in a really old theatre, and have some awesome artists. Kaki King just did the show.

Yeah, I've just realized there are a lot of known players there. The show with Kaki is already on the webpage.

ive been looking into finding tabs for his music.

for those of you interested on the forum from the official site there are accurate tabs http://www.tommyemmanuel.com/forum/topi ... OPIC_ID=22

There are also 2 official tab books that i heard were for the most part dead on. Its really tough to transcribe what he plays because there is so much and he always plays it a little different. I heard the DVDs were a waste because they dont even come with any tabs and the price is expensive.

I think all his stuff is great and i would love to just learn anything that he plays, does anyone recommend any songs i should start out on? thanks.

I've just started playing his stuff.

I've started with "Those Who Wait" and "I have always thought of You". You can find them easily in youtube.

I got the tabs here:

There are other cool ones, but I haven't bought a thumbpick yet... :)
