my two cents: Dave is of african nationality, but is not of the african american race, as race is mostly grouped by phycial characteristics... just like even though i was born here, im not technically a "native american", im just an american, dave is african and an american... i guess thats how id put it

He was born in Africa, lived there, still goes there every year because he thinks of it as home. If you are born in california your not Californian your american. Samething with Africa. He's African and once he moved to America he became African American. This samething happened to Peter Griffin only difference he wasnt born in Africa and they still called him african american.
