my last set of strings were Elixir Nanowebs and i liked them a lot. they definitely make playing guitar easier, especial slides (one sweet world)

but then (now) i have D'Addario Coated 80/20 Bronze Exp 12 Mediums. at first they were much harder to play... more friction and finger noise, particularly slides. and they cost $25, which is quite a rip. they're good strings, but harder to play than Elixirs.

so, i think i'm gonna go back to the Elixir Nanowebs.

a while back i had used Martin 80/20 Bronze Med's ... didn't much like em.

as far as tone goes, i haven't noticed a huge difference between the two (Elix, D'Add), though that is certainly a consideration.

in the end, it's just a matter of preference.
god knows it weighs on me...as heavy as stone and a bone-chilling cold

EXP's coat the wire, then wrap the string. So you dont really have a coating over the whole string, just the outer coil wire. If that makes sense.

Elixers are just standard strings that are then "dipped" into a coating.

I've tried both, and I think the tone is better on the EXPs. Thats just my opinion though. But really, I personally dislike coated strings, and think their tone is bleh. They last longer, but I never feel like I have new strings on when I put a fresh set on. They feel like week old uncoated strings to me.

yeah that makes sense, and playing my almost week-old elixers, the more i play the less they sound that amazing. how long do your EXP's usually last, and how much do they cost? thanks

Wow. That is a rip. Paying over $10 for any set of strings is a rip (in my humble opinion, of course). I get my D'Add's for $4/pack. You need to find a better store.

Around here I can get EXPs for $13.50. Thats not a screamin deal...you might be able to get them for less, maybe more. Depends on where youre at. They last just as long as elixers, in my opinion.

(D'addario uncoated are still the way to go though, if you as me.)
