A 714 was my first nice guitar. Since then i have gotten a taylor K-20ce and am in the process of buying a martin D-18GE. I can't say enough about my 714, in my opinion it is about the best all around guitar you can buy. It has that taylor sound to it but still has alot more bass then most taylors. I love it, it has a great sound to it that is unrivaled because it is just all around good and well balanced. Go for the 714 all the way, mine has the fishman in it and i love it and it is my favorite out of all of my guitars....

about the soft/hard struming done to the guitar, if u read what talyor says about the model then look at daves playing style you can tell there not much to what they say. meaning he strums the fuck out of guitars that talyor says are made for finger picking.

honestly though, I really hate Taylors (for the price that is) I say put your money towards a much much better guitar.
