well, every lightboard I've used has light levels, and programmed light sets in it. Now maybe more expensive ones like that are different, but I'm pretty sure that's how it works. You set up how you want the light at a certain point in time, and set it as a cue. when that time comes, the cue goes off and sets those lights up. Multiple cues, lights changing a lot.
now what kind of cues do you mean? they're playing with a live band...how can they set it up like that?

well, I've never did lights to a live band before, but cues are just set spots when the lights are supposed to change in the song. Like going from verse-> chorus, that's where a cue would be. I'm not sure how they do it with bands like dmb that there songs are always different, but I know that's how i've done it when running lights for school talent shows and other school productions

I've used two lightboards in my life, one a small one for running a small morning show in school and one slightly bigger for running musicals, talent shows, and other school events. They're pretty fun to mess with. It sucks when you blow lights though(my school is really old and our budget never passes, so lights are very hard to come by for our school)

I honestly have no idea how dmb's lightboard is ran. I'm guessing it's automatic, but I have no clue really.

He uses a Wholehog, which is definitely one of the 'more expensive ones'. It's definitely an incredible setup. I'd say it might be the lighting sheet, but more likely than that is it's the number of the voicing that Butch uses on each song. I think whoever said that hit the nail on the head.

Nah, after the show run up near stage(if you're sitting there) and ask a crew member, they'll usually rip them off the floor or something and give you one
