tripping billies alternate chorus

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

tripping billies alternate chorus

Post by seth_southerland »

i was trying to think of something that could be played as an alternate chorus to tripping billies, and i came up with...

Code: Select all

e-x-x-2-3-x-x- -x-x-2-3-x-x-
b-4-2-2-3-4-2-	-4-2-2-3-2-4-
g-4-2-3-4-4-2-	-4-2-3-4-2-4-
d-4-2-4-5-4-2-	-4-2-4-5-2-4-
a-x-x-4-5-x-x-	-x-x-4-5-x-x-
e-x-x-2-3-x-x-	-x-x-2-3-x-x-
i'm going to be at work until five today, but can someone play this and if they have time and see how it sounds

or...if someone has done this kind of thing before and has a better sounding alternate chorus, could you post it? thanks

well its gonna be fuller/louder cuz it has more notes for each chord. your chords for the 3th and 4th chords are essentially the same as daves, he just took out the 5th and octave that you kept.

Code: Select all

e-x-x-2-3-x-x- -x-x-2-3-x-x-
b-3-2-2-3-3-2- -3-2-2-3-2-3-
g-4-2-2-4-4-2- -4-2-2-4-2-4-
d-4-2-4-5-4-2- -4-2-4-5-2-4-
a-x-x-4-5-x-x- -x-x-4-5-x-x-
e-x-x-2-3-x-x- -x-x-2-3-x-x-
if you do want to do it this way it it should be played like this if you want the right chords. all hes playing is Bm A F#m G Bm A then Bm A F#m G A Bm

you can even play the base notes of the Bm and A chord above

Why change it at all. The original way is just as easy.

not sure where you got those chords from...in the chorus he's playing.. A..D..C..B..A...then.. A..D...their not major chords...but i definately don't hear a Bm..nor any version of F.

I could've sworn 2xx2xx is F#m, 3xx4xx is G, 5xx6xx is A, and 7xx7xx is Bm

mraz you're wrong man. All those "dave chords" are is just broken down barre chords. the 7xx7xx is a broken down Bm, the 5xx6xx is A, 3xx4xx is G, and the 2xx2xx is F#m.

I dont know if anyone has said this already but, you could just play versions of those chords as an alternate. It wouldnt sound just like the chorus but it would sound enough like it.

its not an F#m. it is a D chord. think of it more like 2X02. now it sounds more like an D/F#
For us living any other ways was nuts. with all the goodie-goodies working shitty jobs for bum pay checks, took the subway work and worried about their bills were dead. they were suckers, they had no balls. if we wanted something we just took it, and if anybody complained twice they got hit so hard believe me they never complained again

It could really work either way. If you play an F#m, or a D/F#.

the root for that chord is a D with the F# note held down with it. so its the D/F#.

But it could be played with either chord. They both sound fine.
