Not sure if this is a valid/feasible idea... since there are so many problems with bandwidth and supporting music files for sharing with fellow posters, is there any possibility in the future where dmbtabs.com will offer a service to post downloadable music from it's members??
I'm basing my question on Borocks' experience with 'angelfire' and how they've pretty much banned him (most likely due to over-bandwidth).. I know this may be expensive, but maybe there could be like a little $$ fee for anyone who wanted this additional service (sort of comparable to ESPN's 'Insider' club on their website) except this would be for members posting music (covers/originals/etc.)
I'm just curious as to what you think? Kanter, i don't know if you can provide any opinion as too how good/bad this idea would be?
Otherwise i think the only reasonable solution for people who plan to consistently post their downloadable music would be to spend the few $$ just ensure that you'll always have the proper amount of bandwidth...
Yeah, I gotta imagine that the price tag for all that bandwidth would get pretty big. I used Ventures Online for a few different Web sites. Their lowest hosting costs $7.95/month, but you get 2GB/month and 20 MB storage which is probably enough for most. VO has been rock-solid for me and some commercial sites I'm involved with that are hosted there.
With Web hosting you really do get what you pay for.
I think we should just try and abuse the goodwill of angelfire and geocities as much as we can. As for bandwidth control, it's probably for the best if you only promote one cover song every few days or so and to try and to take your previous ones off your website unless somebody actually requests them.
This has been covered in depth in many other threads - it basically boiled down to legal issues - Kanter doesn't want to risk having possibly illegal files on the site and risk having it affect the site at all.
And $8/month for 20MB storage? That seems really expensive...

Yeah, VO is not the cheapest host going but their support is top notch and uptime is great. I host some commercial sites with them and have a reseller acount with my brother-in-law so I get 200 MB/10 GB accounts for around $8.50/month.
HostRocket is another alternative. They're certainly cheaper than VO, but their customer service sucks (I hosted with them once) and their uptime is so-so. Good features for the price though and certainly adequate for posting MP3s.
Finally, WebHostingTalk is the place to go to find Web hosts. I think they even discuss other free or really cheapy ones.
Hope this helps!

....But kanter does get hooked up if you buy from BOTN and say he sent you, and their rates are really good, so they are worth checking out.
Ha. Yeah, but do you remember that like week of downtime a few months back? That would NEVER happen with VO. They have a lot of redundancy built into their infrastructure.
