instead of IBYU/Halloween/Gravedigger, I decided to do What You Are.
its a short gig, and im still working on writing originals. i have another one same time next month, hopefully with more variety. im working on Mayer's 3x5.
what's wrong with playing crash? it's one of those tunes that everybody knows and most people love. it's a way to get your audience into your show and connected to you. just because he's playing crash doesn't mean he's trying to get women. unless you're being sarcastic then this post is null and void. but i think something as recognizable as crash is good for an audience that may not be all that DMB savy.Davy28 wrote:Just don't play crash. Crash is for losers who can't get women with any other song.
cool man, do you have any recordings that we all can hear?SpoonInSpoon wrote:well fuck me freddy.
just got back, and heres what i played
Stay or Leave (on raised b)
Everyday/#36 (my g string BROKE right before i started singing "hani hani" at the end)
Oh (on raised b)
then i had an encore
Halloween
Warehouse.
it was fun.
the gig was at my high school. it was a coffeehouse gig. i described it earlier in another thread.
Well put, I'm with ya on everything you said.Davy28 wrote:I don't know if you notice this, but I am usually too lazy to put smilies in with my posts most of the time; I only do it when my intention is to be sarcastic.
I will fully admit that I am one of those guys who went through a period where Dave was all I would want to play, and although I would boast of my Dave talents and try to play things like SMTS and The Stone to try and impress them, they would not give a shit and demand that I play crash. I hated that more than anything, because to me and I'm sure hundreds of other dave players it is not a song that is very dynamic in terms of guitar abilities and it burns the hell out of your hands. So I would often turn my nose up at that song.
Crash is probably the most frat boyish of all the dave songs, and in college I have made many sacrafices to maintain my individuality and avoid not losing my head in frats like so many of my friends, in terms of parties and getting busted with booze and whatnot. The frat kind of mentality is not my bag.
And like t6s said, it urks the shit out of me when I see guys who think they can play the song as well as me trying to play it, then girls swarm around them and think that he is good.
I still play it from time to time, but I have moved on to other music, like zeppelin, peter gabriel, and the rolling stones.
These days my girl-snagger dave song is WAYG. Its pretty, well written and not cheesy, it doesn't cook my hands, and is probably the second most popular song among less than obsessed dave fans. That would be my recommendation if you want a good dave song to add to a set.
