So how bout this......we have the "contest".
But what song? I think it depends on the rules. If u can only do one track and not layer over two, than it hasta be something with some body (i.e. Grey St.; Ants; etc.) If we can do two tracks than it's ok cuz we can put in our shitty lil solos
, (i.e. LIOG; #41; etc.)
So let's do this thing

I would say limit it to solo acoustic. Two tracks max used any way you wish (e.g. singing and rhythm on one, improv on two; or rhythm on one, singing and improv on two, etc...).Lou wrote:But what song? I think it depends on the rules. Perhaps we should start a new thread and poll to determine the song. Now we need a list to vote on. So far in this thread we have:
Lie in our Graves
#41
Ants Marching
Bartender
Don't Drink the Water
Grey Street
Space Between
Typical Situation
Any others? I can start a poll thread. Thoughts? Also is it worthwhile to start a poll on the rules (i.e. number of tracks allowed, solo acoustic vs. full band)?
Oh and do we have final results on the Stone contest yet?

yea roastbeef that idea came into my head....if this "contest" goes through then we should have another poll to determine what song. im all for that. but i think we should wait for the other contest to determine a winner. speaking of that who won the last competition?
if i were giving advice to someone on how to fly.....
id probably say throw yourself at the ground..and miss.

I'd enjoy participating in an Ants contest.
But I think to make it fair, we do have to limit the number of tracks to 1 or 2 max. And to go even further, we can make it so no enhancing effects are allowed. No reverb or echo or things like that. Just hiss reduction and other effects to take away noise or raise the volume. This will even out the playing field a little bit.
In otherwords: a contest to determine who would sound the best if we were all sitting around a campfire jamming. The CAMPFIRE CONTEST.
Whaja think?

If this is to be a "Campfire Contest", I would say only one track. However, as Lou mentioned, it really will depend on the song. I have a feeling that if we only allow a single track version of songs like DDTW or Bartender, we're going to end up with a lot of similar sounding covers. Adding an improv track and/or background vocals to songs like that will really make them unique.AdamCU81 wrote:But I think to make it fair, we do have to limit the number of tracks to 1 or 2 max. As for effects, I would say a slight reverb is okay, just to "open" it up a little. I know the recordings I get from my PC mic sound a little one dimensional without a little reverb. I would stay away from flanger and whacky delay effects though.
I think we have [more than] enough options for the song. I'll post a poll....
Okay...the poll is HERE. The poll system only allows for 10 options so I could not include the following suggestions:
Grace is Gone
Two Step
Watchtower
WWYS
If you'd really like to do one of those simply reply to the poll thread indicating so and don't vote...

Well, it's looking more and more like it's gonna be LIOG. So, what are the "rules" gonna be? I say three tracks max (rhythm, vocal, and improv) with limited effects - maybe just reverb. I just don't think the entries will be as intriguing as a single vocal/guitar track recording. The jams are what's gonna make it. Thoughts?
