I picked the HD-28V because I've played one before and it sounded better than any guitar I have ever played. However, I have never played a DM3MD so I can't really say.

I chose the HD-28v because I wouldn't want to have Dave's guitar just because its Dave's guitar, I think it'd be kinda nerdy.

they have a d12 29 at my local GC. I played and thought it was the most godlike 12ve that Ive played. A lot less chingy then they others. More of a dread sound
