well of course it makes a difference on normal acoustics unamplified.. that goes without saying..

no comments about #3 though?
i agree on the DM3MD, he brought those up. he was saying that since what im gonna do to an epi chet is not making it a good guitar, and then saying that a martin with daves sig is shit if it dont have daves sig... well thats bullshit, what im gonna do to an epi chet, makes it better than a gibson, except gibson uses better wood, its a solid bodied guitar, it really doesnt matter.

but with a purely acoustic instrument wood makes allot of difference.
You've missed my point. My point was that you can do whatever crazy shit you want to an epi-chet but your going to be limited by the weakest link of the guitar. Also as Ranting stated the wood does make a difference regardless of it being a solid-body, otherwise I'd saw up my kitchen table and slap some Fishman's in it and start rockin.

My example with the Martin was just used to illustrate my point. I wasn't saying that Dave's sig wasn't what made the DM3MD a good guitar. You can take a bottom of the barrell Martin and do whatever crazy crap you want but you'll still have a cheap laminate guitar.

If you want an Epi Chet then great there isn't anything wrong with that, but don't fool yourself into thinking that slappin some different pick-ups in it is gonna make it into something it isn't.

so why do you think higher quality wood makes the cost rise? could it be because it creates a higher quality sound?

listen to Ranting, he knows what he's talking about.
i know im saying, im 14 and i cant afford the good wood of a gibson, i have to buy my own guitars, i have no job (cant get one) and have to buy guitars mostly outa christmas and birthday money.

it just seemed like you were making the point that the wood in a solid body acoustic doesn't really make a difference.

glad to clear that up though 8)

yeah, trust me if i had a job id stowe away some money for 4 months of paychecks and get the gibson, but i can get like $400 for christmas/ birthday (my bday is dec 26), ask for a good acoustic amp, hopefully get it, and save up all my money from today till then and have enough for the fishman and some other stuff.

what happened to the Epi? Believe me, Unless you you dont plan on getting any new pickups (I recommend) Id stick with the Epi. They arent bad at all. Definitly worth more then 400.

If your local music store, or one of them, is a authorized Gibson dealer, they can order you one. When I ordered mine back in 1998, it took like 5 months for me to get it because it was back-ordered.

What really pissed me off was that the reason I decided to buy it is that I was playing on one at the shop, but they told me it had been sold. I went in there 2 or 3 months later for some strings and to have them give Gibson a call to check on the ETA for my guitar, and that Chet was still there. They said the guy decided not to get it, or he had bad credit, or something. Then I attempted to cancel my order, but they said it would still cost me 20% of the price of the Chet, which was my down payment, since they had ordered the guitar already. Needless to say I don't shop there anymore, they could have at least given me a call since they knew I was interested.

But basically, if your local store is a Gibson dealer, and they aren't douchebags, they should be able to order you one. If you can, play one, or something like it first though, because honestly the Chet isn't some people's cup of tea, being as it is really more an electric guitar that happens to be strung/setup like an acoustic, and some people prefer a true hollow acoustic when it comes down to it.
