coated strings are awesome. everyone should listen to me for no reason except that i have nothing else to talk about. i know this doesnt make sense, but it shouldnt so dont worry about it. just go out, buy some coated strings, go see x-men 2 on friday, send money to my house or tell me you want me to set up a paypal account, etc.. please excuse my incoherrent rambling.

Ok so i got my rig back with the new strings. They suck. I played for about 2 hrs and I had to take them off. My fingers had tons of black dust on them and I couldn't get used to closeness in size of the some of the strings. They felt all out of proportion to one another. So I put on some Elixirs.grock wrote:those true mediums look like they are made to be tuned up to open E. i like that. i use the bluegrass guages. they use light strings for the high e and high b. and then use the medium guage for Low EADG strings. and i have been using elixirs but i may just try out some EXP's.4mbi3nt wrote:I haven't tested these out yet but you may want to try GHS true mediums. The luither that is working on my stuff recommended them. They're kinda of different in that they use some strings from the light set. Also they only cost 8$.

once you go elixir you don't go back.
i am trying some EXP's right now and i don't like them. they came out awhile ago but i had a stash of about 4 sets of elixirs at the time. now as i was out of strings i thought i'd give D'Addario another chance. wrong idea!!! now, i am just waiting for one to break so i can change them. there is so much string noise. squeaky slides are not my style. and i've never had a problem with huge stretch chords but the extra grab of the strings prevents me from pushing that pinky to that extra fret. arghhh. after all i heard i thought they were gonna be awesome.
it's like every song i play is all like squeak squeak squeak.
elixirs have minimal to zero string noise and that's the way i like it.

yea, its definitely the string noise that keeps me on elixirs- i just restrung my guitar with some cheap regular phosphor bronze stuff and it feels good, but the noise is just too much- elixirs feel too slick at first, but after a week or so they break in real nice, just enough grip and hardly any squeak

elixirs are awesome. nanoweb has a thinner coat, so it has better grip and a more natural sound. polyweb makes the string smoother and have a different sound to them. either way you cant go wrong. same price.

just to let you know, i personally love elixirs, but be warned. a friend of mine used this analogy - elixirs are like heroine to a addict. be careful.
