does anyone know what would be the major factor for string corrosion? also, does anyone know of any cleaner-type product for caring for your strings? thanks...

i should have specified, sorry, but my strings sound great, it's the buildup of crud on them thats the problem. i wipe them down with a dry towel and they feel and sound fine, i was just wondering if there were any precautionary measures i could take to protect them.
