LA bound - local hotspots?

I'm headed down to LA for business next week (near staples center and then redondo beach), I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for good bars with live bands, or local guitar haunts. Might like to check out a couple shops too, see if there are any rare finds or whatever. I'll be there for a week, so anything to entertain me! Anyone have any suggestions?

Thought it was all hotspots down in LA?

LOL.

I was in LA for a bit and found it overates, Santa Monica is a really nice place to visit. Check out club Gotham, or basically any club on the parkway.

Lot's of street musicians busking around.

tim reynolds is playing at the key club in holywood on friday the 13th..... and a couple of cool bands, delta nove and aphrodesia are playing in longbeach at blue cafe that same day, if you're around. hope this helps you out.
