Pick slipage!

Post by NJPearce22 »

Yep...probably not a word "slipage," but it's happening a lot lately. I keep losing (more like the pick flying across the room on a quick downstroke  ) my pick while strumming like a mad man just like Dave on his songs. More so for things like Warehouse and Billies chorus...fast crazy stuff like that. I think it may be my Green Tortex .88MM picks. They may be too thick to handle that rapid of picking. Would I be better off going to the orange or red Tortex? I like using the thicker ones for my bluesy stuff that I fiddle around with, but I'm thinking different picks are necessary for different styles of playing. Any suggestions?

thicker picks are usually better for faster picking and more precision. i think thinner picks are easier for strumming but i would argue they aren't as good. With a thinner pick you lose attack and therefor loudness. also thicker picks are easier to do a double time strum where a thinner pick might fart out on you cuz it flexes too much.

I used to use the reds, when all i did was strum. Then as i started to play more lead breaks, i started with orange for the control. and now i'm up to 1mm and i've noticed improvement with each step up.

I only use picks to make sure I can... but when I do, I really like these:

That hole just adds a little friction and the texture of the pick is really nice. They do break a little easier tho..

yea, i got one of those cymbolic gold picks also. horrible for strumming and they are heavy. not worth the money. I like the green dunlops.

I usually have no problem with my tortex picks, though sometimes it is a nice change to not use any.

I had the same "slippage" problem until I started using a hole punch on my 60mm dunlops. No problems holding onto them now.
