LIOG intro on L@RR help

I just listened to LIOG on the Red Rocks album after learning it and I don't understand what the hell dave is doing. these parts sound different:

E:-2--------x--------------------------
B:-3--------x--------------------------
G:-2--------x-----------2--------4--4-
D:-0--------x--0--2--4-----4----2--2-
A:----4--2--x--------------------------
E:-----------x------------------3--------

it's like he's got some other chords he's hitting with more complicated picking. it's not a huge change, but if you listen close you can hear it. and i don't even think he's doing that muted strum.

is there a more complicated tab out there?

Nope, thats it, a few more muted strums than one and he strums that 3-24-- chord more than twice but thats it. His guitar sounds real twangy, dont know if thats throwing you off but I dont hear anything else.

Remeber Red Rocks was before the Crash album. The songs were different before they recorded them.

Uh, not really, he mightve played the em, d, g part more than once but that was prior to red rocks, I listened along and played with Red Rocks, its the same as on this site.

I think I hear what you're talking about, and it's just Dave being sloppy and hitting open strings. I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you really have the desire to sound exactly like that, then just be sloppier.

No, I didn't mean that he played it differently. I ment the "order" dave plays it. For Example: "The Long Jam" they switch between them at different times.

that might be it, i dunno . . . i think it has more to do with his picking. i know it's not a big deal, it's just that i always think i get a riff and then i listen to dave play it and realize that i suck worse than i thought. like i said, it's no big deal, just a subtle change and i was wondering if anyone knew any other tabs or had any tips.

if you listen the rr album and then the crash version of the song, there's definitely a difference.

i don't know what you're talking about with the order or whatever (i know he changes the order of jams, but i'm just talking about the intro), but yeah the studio and live version are really different.

It's really just a matter of strumming. As for the Thread starter, I completely understand why you would want to play it like Red Rocks, as this is my favorite Dave Matthews "Band" version of LIOG concerning Dave's guitar. The intro just sounds PRETTY.

As far as tabs go, yes.. IMO it's takin it too far to try and break Dave's songs down "strumming/muting-wise". That's just something that you have to "feel". Besides, Dave's strumming changes a lot for various songs including LIOG. The basic fundamental structure and strings played pretty much remain the same throughout all the years.
