I just had a chance to play at this monthly little showcase for jazz combos at my school. I feel it went alright, so I figured I'd share it. I feel like my best here were "I Mean You" and the trio set. There are a few ugly parts, but that's the nature of jazz I guess, it's an imperfect music. I'm part of two groups on this one, my usual combo (Central Avenue) and a trio that got assembled a day before the gig-
just listened to the first act, great stuff. Great solos all around, and there's some good interplay between you and the drummer. Cool take on Footprints too. I like how it almost feels like a free jazz piece, very laid back, like it's barely being held together. Really good stuff!
Thanks for listening! That Footprints feel is a result of calling the tune a few weeks ago and the drummer had never heard it before (crazy, right?). So that's just how he interpreted the bass line the first time we played it, just chill and free instead of swinging. We decided to keep that feel when we played it at this little gig. We were going to play a funky version of Bags Groove but swapped it out for Footprints so we could play a little nasty
