My thoughts....

Now, I haven't listened to DMB in at least a year. I've completely lost interest in the band and don't really think they are bringing anything interesting to the fans. However, I still get excited when new stuff comes out. When the intro began, i was really really excited. This is what we all have been waiting for. Its not overproduced, its dark and ominous, and honestly pretty beautiful. Then comes the drop....gahhhh shoot myself in the face. Its cheesy bullshit. Like WTF, it sounds like a wannabe top 40 song. If the band likes this song and think they have made a good piece of music, its over, they are done.

I would just like to remind you all (and myself) that we are jumping to alot of conclusions based on 30 seconds. And we really haven't even heard a main part of a song. If this song has that funky vibe, whatever, thats cool. But if the entire album is that style I don't think I will enjoy it too much. I need to hear the single.

Right. I don't think anyone is truly judging either side yet, without having heard even one whole song.

i don't think that smooth sax intro (which BTW is perhaps lip-service to ants marching with the d/g progression) is anything to do with the later "big band funk" intro we then hear.

The camera suddenly is at a different angle on carter so we know they have edited it together for the video.

As such, when it was said above that the two do not juxtapose together well - we have no reason to assume the would or should.

Also, there has been a hell of a lot of over analyzing these few seconds of music - here and elsewhere which does the band a disservice - you cant peer meekly at one corner of an artwork and assess its merit (negative or positive) until the whole canvas has been revealed and you've had time to reflect on the whole.

(and yes, i am aware of the irony of this post)
Gervais on Rosa Parks "she was arrested but then that law was changed- but she didnt stop there, she started sitting in the seats saved for disabled people. unbelavable, she talked to the driver when the bus was in motion- did she have the correct change ready? - did she bollox!"

Hmm. Maybe. There is an edit right at 1:54 and that's when that scream thing and the funk jam thing start.

What leads me to believe it is the fact that they said Shake Me Like A Monkey had LeRoi doing soloey type stuff in the beginning, which that song had to a T. Then there is the monkey-like "wah wah wah wah" before the funk kicks in.
