Is John Mayer a better guitar player than Dave Matthews?

omg did u just say boyd isn't as good u can seriously die now and no one would care a violinist who is about to go mainstream not by classical violin is someone to look at and he's just a musician daves band has a explosiveness and shares the spotlight its like what jimmy paige said about zeppelin theres not one person who isn't great at there instrument like every other band its the whole band. John Mayer just sits up in front on a strat or a acoustic electric strums while his band fills so cmon

but a serious questino is if john mayers band is as good if not better then daves in ur opinion then why do flocks of people sit there in awe when dave isn't singing and they are just jamming and all these screaming little girls just askf or no such thing over and over again

because the focus of john mayer is JOHN MAYER...the dave matthews band is exactly that, the dave matthews band....DMB is an entire, while john's band just plays behind john...so it doesn't matter how good his band is....unless of course he decided to pick up *cough buddy guy and double trouble cough*....now please stop posting on this ridiculous thread

i know that john has incredible skill, he does an amazing Lenny, but theyre two different styles. john has to hold himself, while dave has the band.

exactly. nicely put. that's exactly what i was saying to matty last night...it's not dave's style to go off into this awesome guitar solo. and, yes, we all know that he talks down upon his playing...but look at it this way, he's been playing guitar since pre-high school. he's GOT to be good. he just never shows it..it's not him. i'm sure he can totally rip it up.

hmmm, i dont really think he can, its not his style so he never bothered learning to play crazy ass solos

i think he knows a lot more hten appears to the eye becuase a solo is basic music theory if ya think about it unless u pull a hendrix out your ass and are just a prodigey.
