dmbtabs.com tab question

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

The ~~~~~~'s mean that you should keep the note fretted....let it ring a little, then go whatever it says after. As for what DMBFanJason said, well, he's entitled to my opinion. I have also just fixed the tab to show the intro that Dave does better.....got a MUCh better video of it(10/24/02 cough cough) and the 4th and 5th notes aren't played open....Oh well....peace all

maybe the terminology is different for the guitar, but I don't think that it's a vibrato. There's a difference between letting it ring and vibrato. Vibrato occurs when you move your finger back and forth along the sting in very rapid and minute movements, producing a sound that almost sounds like an acoustic beat. It is used a lot more on orchestral strings (violin, viola, cello, double/contra bass) than on the guitar.

my bad, its called a trill (very rapid alternate between the note indicated and the note after it by hammering on and pulling off), i always get the two terms mixed up, sorry

Here is an example of each.

http://www.eastofbeautiful.com/files/tr ... ibrato.mp3

The first 2 are trills ... hammering back and forth
The last 3 are vibrato...

Vibrato is a very subtle thing but it REALLY enhances the experience of listening and the quality of song... Don Ross uses this to his advantage ALL the time.

Its a sustain....like a sustain pedal on a piano. Let it ring.

we'll get to the bottom of this, I know we will :)

I agree that its a sustain. it makes more sense than a trill would for the IBYU tab anyway.
good, and you?

wanna see vibrato? just watch boyd play, whenever he's playing any remotely long notes, he uses tons of vibrato.
