A Possibly New B&P Idea

Unread post by GuitarGuy610 » Mon Jul 28, 2003 1:43 pm

I was just thinking- B&P's are fun and easy, but some people think of them as too much work or are just lured away from them; I was at one time. Whether it is the act of having to package everything or the going to the post office that bothers people, I have noticed that some of my friends just think that it is too much work.

So what are the alternatives? Well Furthernet.org has a program to download the SHN and sometimes MP3 encoded recordings, but that takes a long time, even with DSL because so few people share, and so few recordings are available.

So what I was thinking of was a way that people could get the concerts they wanted from other DMB or *insert band name here* fans without having to go through the entire process, which might result in a quicker more widespread sharing of recordings. Possibly a $0.60 charge for the envelope, $0.80 for shipping and a $0.05 charge for each CD-R. (Possibly even free, depending on if the blank CD's were received after rebate, or just cheap like a spindle for $5) Note that all this would in theory be replaced by the exact charge for purchasing the goods used to make and send the discs, and no profit would be gained, except for the good music that is being shared. This would allow a conversation, contact between fans and after a quick transfer of funds their CD's would be on the way to them, rather than to the person to burn them. This might make trading faster, or more widespread.

Just a thought, it might have been tried before, but I thought it might be intresting to discuss. What do you guys think?

It's "illegal". (Against every band's policies with an open-taping policy, especially DMB). The sole thrust of B&P's are that absolutely zero money exchanges hands between the two traders (even if there is no profit). If this plan were to happen, then bands would immediately disallow taping and we would lose our ability to tape :(

not true
you can;t make a profit

there is nothing wrong with "covering costs" of a trade/b+p
many people do it and in fact i have done it 2 times for a WH worker

the real fact is that many times people can do it cheaper by covering costs then they can themselfs
if i buy a bulk pack of dvds, i can get them much cheaper then you can get a few for a B+P
if i can save you money, why wouldn;t you want to do that

yeah thats what everyone says because its easier for stupid people to understand however there is tech nothing wrong with covering costs of supplies
it happens all the time, people just don;t have the balls to post about it or talk about it because 99% of the people start ripping on them for it
but its not a prob really

a good example is DVD shows, i can buy a 100 pack of DVDs, good ones, for $1.89 each
the same brand in a 15 pack is $3 each
now if you are getting discs for a tree and need 2 or 3 discs you don;t want to buy a $45 pack of discs let alone a 100 pack
if i say i can get you discs from me for $3.78 instead of you paying $45 and having a bunch sitting around you would do it
