I would have to say live at MTV 10 spot...

Although the energy of 05-04-1993 is pretty crazy...

What ya think?

Really? You've never seen it live. I can already tell.

I saw it at the Gorge in 02...that was pretty sick. Especially since he hadnt played it for three years before that...the place went nuts. (I was in row 14, so that probably helped.) But I think the best one is the live at the 10 spot one. He pretty much cashes in all his chips on that one.

i just have a hard time comprehending everybody's unexplainable obsession with live shows. why?? why does everyone go nuts for crappy quality and random shouts, nothing beats the polish of a studio recording

Whatever floats your boat man. If you want to know why, its because music has been played live a lot longer than its been recorded, and live music has been a big part of EVERY world culture since the dawn of time. There's something in it that appeals to the basic core of a human being, or most human beings anyway. Its really not that difficult to understand. You just may not feel the same.

its not that i have a problem with live music, i love going to concerts, but i almost never listen to a the recording of the shows i've been to. the live experience is awesome, but when you hear the recording of it, it just sucks

when all you guys start listing these random dates, it just confusing as to how the difference between each version is really that noticeable. who cares if the 07-24-99 version of Ants Marching is better than the 03-08-95 version? its still the same damn song. and the quality of these random shows usually only serve to make the song sound worse. if i did hear it live, then maybe its would be better, but i would actually have to be there.

Speaking of live versions of Halloween, one of my college friends has this nutty obession with the song, and he wants a video of it being played by Dave or D&T or DMB. Does anyone have a version or know of anywhere that I can get one?

peace
I love you oh so well, like a kid loves candy and fresh snow.

Thats understandable. Much better answer than "Fuck Live." I dont know...in the case of Halloween anyway, I have heard it live, and I was really close, and they played it with a ton of energy to a crowd that was begging for it. So just about any good live version sort of unearths the experience for me. In fact, the unpolished non-studio quality authenticates it. Granted, a sbd/aud matrix does it better than an aud alone. But it wasnt studio "quality" when I heard it, so...? And with Halloween, its not like Ants or whatever where we have 40,000 instances of the song. Its been played, what, twice since 99? And before that it was still somewhat of a rarity.

its not the same, though. Not only are there differences between dave solo shows, dave and tim shows, and dmb shows, but the sound changes and evolves over the years... listen to a '92 show, then a '95 show, then a '99 show, then an '03 show... the sound and attitude of the band is sooo different. No live show is the same, and not every recording is bad, especially some of the earlier soundboard cuts

thats what all my gang-bangin, rap-listenin friends say...."Whats the difference? Why don't you just buy one CD?"...I don't think you can appreciate the subtleties and intricacies of DMB, and what makes them one of the greatest bands ever with some of the most timeless music...you and Gcom need to go fuck eachother in the ass. When we start listing dates of certain versions etc., we know exactly what eachother are talking about. You're just out of the loop bra..

P.S. you and Gcom need to go fuck eachother in the ass.
