Good setlist?

Unread post by bmblmoo5 » Sat Nov 22, 2003 10:05 pm

hey, im about to hopefully do my first live show with a friend of mine switching between guitar and keyboards while i play daves parts, i was wondering what you all thought of this setlist...i want to keep it at 10-11 full songs, and i dont wanna just throw out all hits you know...also, i know that Sweet up and down is different tuning than ants but thats taken care of...and the cry freedom outro is just playing a small portion of the chorus, its only ten-fifteen seconds or so...thanks...oh also, i heard that pig into ASTB was done once before but i havent heard it just messed around with it...i might have to put something instead of pig? or maybe ...i dunno..i want ASBT in there though

Passion Intro ->
Warehouse
Sweet Up and Down ->
Ants Marching
Don’t Drink the Water
The Stone
#40 ->
Lie in Our Graves
Pig (Abbreviated) ->
Anyone Seen the Bridge->
So Much To Say ->
Crash Into Me->
Cry Freedom outro/abbreviated
-------------------------
Gravedigger (fingerpicked)
Two Step

thanks a lot

That looks pretty solid. Wouldn't mind a TB thrown in there though ;)

I don't really know where you're playing or what the circumstances of the show are and whatnot, but just be careful playing ALL DMB songs. You probably will quickly get labeled as the kid who plays dave matthews stuff and never get taken seriously. I've seen it happen many times and it can get frustrating.

I was gonna say that but figured there was probably a reason for it being all dave.

that's a solid set, i like it. one suggestion though, you have a lot of
-----> but especially for a live audience you might want to stop every now and then and talk a bit, but give them a break every once in a while, just my opinion. and as said above, the whole thing with playing all dave may get you labeled that way, but if you don't mind, go for it. i have played for audiences several times and 95% of the stuff i do is dave. actually, a lot of people like it, not all, but most. but that set is awesome, good luck

thanks everyone...yeah, i already get that whole only playing dave thing and i havent even done a show yet, for the most part i only listen to dave too, not that im closed minded but ive just found that i can listen to it in any mood and theres just so much that i love about it...and yeah, i usually dont fingerpick gravedigger but just fingerpicking random notes of the chords sounds pretty cool, plus my friend wants to sing that one so i can watch what im doing..maybe ill take out one or two of the ---> , thanks for the advise...oh and also, i originally had TB instead of TS but my friend can already do TS and would have to learn TB so its just a little easier for now, thanks again

ahh...yeah if i get to it sometime..i gotta finish all my college apps soon tho..ugh...but basically just form the chords as dave plays them and pick one to two notes at a time, you can do hits and pulls too especially on the 2nd string C and the 3rd string Ab, just as dave does...and you can mess with the rhythm a little bit too, try first fingerpicking the chords as kinda an intro to gravedigger...if i get to it ill post something, might not be for a little tho

So you can have clean transition from one drop-D song toanother, I recommend switching Ants and DDTW.
Also, If you want to branch out a little from dave so that fans do not get bored, play the maker, cortez, Long black veil, or AATW for a variety.
I agree that billies should be in there, but not in place of two step. two step is a kickass encore. I was thinking more as a closer.

hmm....for the SUAD into ants it was just gonna be my friend playing the D/G intro while i tune up my guitar..but yeah i could just switch them...and the thing is, most of the ppl id be playing for wont have ever heard sweet up and down, the stone, pig..maybe #40...so if i played maker or cortez etc. most of them would still think it was dave...and if i throw in tb as the closer then if i get the opportunity to do all this again im really limiting my choice of hits to play... but yeah, its one of my favorites by far
