Rickenbackers

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

Rickenbackers

Unread post by GSR » Tue Feb 22, 2005 12:20 am

So.... i've been having multiple orgasms over my deepest end dvd. specifically Greasy Granny's Gopher Gravy with Les Claypool (who is utterly awesome, and will kick your ass). But he rips on a rickenbacker during that song with gov't mule. it looks like a 4003, but in bass player magazine he said he had a 4001 '72 rickenbacker, so yeah, but anyway. Anyone hear anything about them? the 4003 is $985 at musiciansfriend.com. which is a whole lot lower than a flea, for those of us that don't have connections. I've never seen one at guitar center, so i'm assuming it'd have to be a special order. I was just wondering what kind of info/experience you guys had.

I'm gonna go watch GGGG... again....

I personally never got a hard on for one. The one I played was the 4003 and it was very heavy. Only 20 frets, meh, the Flea doesn't do much better but neither is 24. I also hate the pickup cover.

Anybody know the story behind the 4001 -> 4003 switch, in terms of quality and such forth?

Great bass. Most of the best Beatle recordings were done with that one (rubber soul to white album, and some abbey road).

they've got 4003's for a grand, free shipping at http://www.samedaymusic.com

that's the route i might go...

there's this on ebay as well... but 200 bucks more for a brand new one and no risk of crappiness.

My GC and DJM will probably never have anything other than fender, ibanez, or occasionally warwick and musicman, ever. I'm so bored with almost everything in my life right now that i just wanna buy a ric online and have it delivered to my house tomorrow.
